Hydroxyapatite : This is a complex salt in which three molecules of calcium phosphate are associated with one molecule of calcium hydroxide. It is known as basic calcium orthophosphate or by the chemical name decacalcium dihydroxide hexakis.

Analysis : Apart from calcium and phosphorus the other cations present in small quantities in MCHC are sodium, magnesium and potassium. The main trace elements present in MCHC are Zinc and iron.

Proteins : MCHC contains 18% of collagen & 9% of other protein residues. Other amino acids present in relatively high amounts include glycine, glutamic acid and hydroxyproline.

Electron Microscopy reveals MCHC has a highly fibrillar structure and hence good absorption of calcium in the stomach.
