A robust, handsome, active
dog, still used as a sheepdog but also a guard dog, rescue dog and guide dog.
Head
Flat between the ears,
with an elongated and a black nose.
Eyes
Dark, almond-shaped.
Ears
Small, not too close together,
at the top of the skull.
Tail
Carried low with a slight
lift at the end which should reach its hocks.
Body
Long in comparison to
height
Coat
Dense and thick, especially
at the collar.
Colour
Tricolour (tan, black
and white): blue merle, sable and white.
Sizes
Dogs height 55.9-66cm(
(22-26in), bitches height 50.8-61 cm (20-24in); dogs weight 27.3-34.1 kg (60-75lb),
bitches weight 22.7-29.6kg (50-65lb)
Origin
Originally from Scotland,
where they were used to guard the black-faced, black, footed colley sheep.
Personality
Kind, sensitive dogs but
apt to be indolent and so much be trained most carefully loyal and not aggressive,
but suspicious of strangers.
