Size
The size of a Standard Manchester Terrier can vary between 12 and 22 lbs. There should not be white on any part of the body, and the mahogany markings must be in specific places.
One of the trademarks of a Manchester is his "thumbprints", which are the black markings on the front forelegs that resemble a thumbprint.
Manchesters are no longer used primarily for sport. They are loving and loyal family members who take their role as protector very seriously. They are able obedience dogs and enjoy the sports of agility, tracking and lure coursing. They still retain their hunting instinct, and will clear their premises of vermin. But their favorite role is that of devoted companion to their master.
Intelligent, curious and energetic, the Manchester is always responsive to praise and affection. They are quick to learn and respond well to obedience training. Manchesters are suited to urban, suburban or rural living.
