
Description
In all respects, except for size, the miniature smooth or short-haired dachshund should be similar to the standard smooth-haired.
Head
Elongated, with a slightly convex skull; long muzzle; black nose; dachshunds usually have 42 strong teeth and an equally strong jaw.
Eyes
Dark red or brown/black.
Ears
Mobile, hanging along cheeks.
Tail
Carried in line with the back.
Body
Long-bodied, short-legged, with head held boldly; the long back is both broad and muscular.
Coat
Short, dense and smooth; free of curl.
Colour
All colours acceptable, with exception of white.
Sizes
Weight should be about 4.5kg (10lb) but not exceeding 5kg(11lb).
Origin
A very old-established German breed, the result of crossings including the dwarf hound and the earth dog with the German standard for the breed having been set in 1879.
Personality
Developed from their role
as den-hunting dogs, the dachshunds are courageous and tenacious; they are
proud and good barkers, with a cheerful nature.
