Management of Pyoderma Using Benzoyl Peroxide shampoo

 

 

Benzoyl Peroxide exerts its action by penerating and flushing hair follicles, removes scales, glandular secretion & bacteria thus controls bacterial infection.

PETBEN - 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide

Composition: 
Benzoyl peroxide B.P. 2.5% w/v
Buffered Shampoo base Q.S.

Direction of use:

Wet the coat thoroughly with water. Apply PetBen on the entire body particularly in the affected areas and allow for 5-10 minutes of contact time. Then rinse completely with water and repeat the procedure once in a week depending on the severity of the disease or as per the advice of the vet.

Materials & Methods :
10 Pyoderma cases (Clinical signs / culture)
Age group : 1 - 8 years
GSD(3) / Boxer (2) / Doberman (2) / Great Dane (1) / Irish Setter (1) / Spitz (1)
Application : Once a week for 6 weeks
Cases were monitored for a period of 6 months.

Results and Discussion

Of 10 cases, 8 cases started showing clinical recovery by about 15 days. ( Evaluated in terms of druing pf lesion/eruption of hairs)

Complete recovery

6 cases by 4th week
2 cases by 6th week
2 cases did no show much improvement even after 6 weeks : upon investigation : Hypothyroidism
